Gospel singer, Esther Igbekele, has said that she does music because of her undying passion for the craft rather than about the gains she can derive from it.
In an interview, she said”I have a passion for music and I sing because it is what I enjoy. I am a musician; therefore whether I’m getting money from it or not, I don’t attach so much importance to that. I don’t sing with the intention of making a profit.”
She, however, admitted that at the beginning of her career, things weren’t as rosy as they are now. She added,”Rome was not built in a day. Every profession one is into has its own trouble in the beginning but what keeps you going is the fire and with this, an individual would have the ability to overcome every problem. Despite the difficulties, I never thought of giving up.”
On how she deals with the criticisms she gets, she stated”Criticisms do not get to me because it is normal to have critics. Jesus Christ was not loved by everyone, so who am I to expect everyone to love me. I cannot really mention the criticisms I get but I don’t let that get to me in any way.”
The gospel artiste also shared her views on skin bleaching and tattoos. “I don’t like tattoos and skin bleaching. I believe it is a choice for whosoever chooses to do it. I’m not comfortable with tattoos. I pray that my children wouldn’t have it. Anyone that has a tattoo has made a choice because when one is 18 years old, one has the right to one’s personal opinion. If you wish to join my group and I see that you’ve got a tattoo, I’d feel reluctant about accepting one to my group.”
